MASTER KATSUMI KAWAGUCHI INTERVIEW

LE INTERVISTE DEL GD

PRESENTANO:

MASTER KATSUMI KAWAGUCHI

Q- How and when did You start this hobby? Before building Gunpla did You build any other model?

A- I started the hobby of model kit is from the days of about 10 years old.
I was making a character model kits, such as Ultraman and Thunderbird at that time.
I have also started making as well as military model that time.
I was playing with blocks and clay from an early age and like to create something basically.
I'm not sticking to the category of the model kit.
I also creates model kit called AFV · military model, ship model, model aircraft, and other "scale model".
It does not change even now from the old days.

Q- When You started, did You get inspired by any modeller in particular?

A- There are many famous modeler of model kit of Japan from old days.
I've been against them respect. However, did not have to yearn for someone specific.

Q- When did this hobby turn into a job for You?

A- I just joined the crowd of model shop in high school.
There were some people that their work in magazines such as Hobby Japan in that community.
Hobby Japan was looking for a modeler for posting the model of Gundam in 1980. We were introduced to the editorial department at that time.
Until 1985 to joining the Bandai from 1980, I made a model kit including various Gundam as a professional modeler.
Motivation that I wanted to enter the BANDAI was the feeling to want to produce their own work as a GUNPLA that can be made without the need for various modifications on their own.

Scala, diorama o modello singolo ?
Q- Which kind of Gunpla do you prefer to build? Do you have a preferred scale? Do you prefer to focus only on the model or also on a diorama?

A- There are many motivations when making a GUNPLA.
I think you would like to reproduce it if there is a charming scene in the anime.
Making by interpreting in my own painting and remodeling from the setting of MS is one of the fun.
When I had it in my hand the model kit, plan what I want to make do with it is finished.
In some cases, I think it was focused on single item, but In some cases, and you want to represent the diorama is the plan, it is different.
However, making the model kit 1/144 scale is often given the time to complete recently.

Q- Which Gunpla do You prefer? The anime series You like the most? The character You prefer?

A- I have been involved as work GUNPLA and Gundam many titles. Therefore, there is a memory in each, to choose your favorite model is very difficult.
However, I have a special feeling to MasterGrade series. This is because it is the series that I own planning, was started in charge.

Q- In Your opinion, how much has the Gunpla world of today changed from the first kit?

A- GUNPLA will celebrate its 35th anniversary next year.
35 years has evolved while reflecting the value to the product as desired by the user as much as possible.
I'm thinking of GUNPLA now exists along with the sensibility of many users.

Q- How do you see Gunpla future?

A- GUNPLA was born as a "miniature model was scaled down when it is assumed that MS has really exist", we have reached the present.
It is the current GUNPLA's made the aim of specification you feel more realistic.
There will also direction to evolve further as a display model.
Value that, to fight the GUNPLA as Build Fighters is one of the dream.
As long as there are people who seek a variety of value, you will find the possibility in many fields of the future GUNPLA.

Q- You are a judge and an organizer of GBWC, how does it feel to be in such a big and important event and what are the difficulties You encounter in it's organization ?

A- 4th Annual Meeting this year will be held GBWC.
There was a contest event called BAKUC with a focus on Asia before GBWC came to be made.
Has a history of more than 10 years to put the period.
Problem in the operational aspects has been overcome to some extent during the '10, but there are some issues that we are always holding.
One is struggling with always our way to increase the participants in the "Junior" section.
They are users who will support the next generation of GUNPLA, we are trying various measures to help them get interested in GUNPLA.
In addition, it may be said that it is the problems that I'm always aware also that they keep the "fairness of the judge".

Q- After Your success, how much time do You still spend building Gunpla?

A- I am in contact with the GUNPLA while working for Bandai.
However, I like the model kit whole not just GUNPLA, I will not mention the model kit whenever I have time.
As long as there is a desire to own, work that can 100% satisfaction will not be able to.
Relationship with such a model kit will not change even after I retired the incumbent for me.

Q- Do You have any pratical advice for us western modellers? What have You noticed that we do wrong or don't do in our models ?

A- I'm thinking that there is no gender difference, age difference, the difference in nationality GUNPLA.
If you make the instructions as, it is possible for anyone to get the same finished product.
But I think to be in place to make the work there is only one in the world using the model kit that anyone can be completed in the same way model hobby.
Techniques for making a model kit will keep you shows how a lot of if search on the Web.
However, rather than those from whom taught, imagination in making the work is what is born in my own.
I feel that it is maximum enjoyment of model kit be embodied imagination.
There is no right or wrong to work was produced values, from personal experience.
If you can share with others the representation made with theme of the work, it will also be able to say a lot of people recognize the "great work".

Q- In japan there are many groups attended by modellers, and it is regarded as a very normal hobby ,while in Italy  modelling is considered a "niche" interest. Many expert modellers in our country look at Gunpla as if they were "toys"; what is your advice  in order to make it possible for gunpla modelling to grow even in our country??

A- "OTAKU Culture" in Japan's have become common it is very recent. I think it took a time of about 40 years in its formation.
I think that's to generalize rapidly from nothing is difficult. However, I think the most important thing is that you get to continue without having to deny the hobby of your own.
People in their 30s and 40s, which has worked with the decision in a variety of industries and companies in Japan today, the individuals who have touched the Gundam as a child.
They's the people who tolerate aware of the GUNDAM · GUNPLA without discomfort.
Some celebrities to be in contact with the GUNDAM · GUNPLA as a child, to come out for love still in Japan.
I think also because little by little, even going to expand the recognition and acceptance, and hope began to continue by all means to you.

Q- What are, in Your  opinion, the big differencies among oriental, european and American style??

A- I can not feel much difference between regions in Asia, Europe, and the United States in mind for the content of GUNDAM.
I think people model kit they have in hand for the first time that GUNPLA so many modelers Asia. I think people who make directional, such as the figure GUNPLA so often they.
I think modelers GUNPLA with experience of the scale model is like a lot in Europe and the United States.
There is an impression that work can feel the approach like military models such as large.

Q- Do You think time is right to have in Italy an event like in Malaysia, Korea etc for the GBWC selection??

A- I hope that it wants to expand in the future events in each country has been held as current GUNPLA-EXPO.
I think that it can be held in Italy problem of management realistic if possible clear.

Q- How much of  THE REAL Meijin Kawaguchi is there in the character of the GUNPLA BUILD FIGHTER? Is the creation of the character a tribute to Your commitment and successes with Bandai or was it done just  for fun?

A- Relationship with "GUNDAM Build Fighters" and I do not merely indirect.
However, I think GBF as something that is told well, the message about the model kit that I have originated from the usual.
I have heard to be a character that was made in the image of me "MEIJIN-KAWAGUCHI first generation" of GBF.
"Third generation MEIJIN" is unrelated character with me completely of course.
Character called "MEIJIN" has been set up to appeal to the audience the fun of model kit.

Q- We have finished and we thank You wholeheartedly...please feel free to say anything You'd like  ...

A- Finally.
As was also noted in the answer, gender differences, age differences, and nationality differences have no meaning in terms of enjoying the model kit.
In addition, enjoy the model kit, will vary by values cultivated in knowledge and experience of the person who has to get it. They will also depend on lifestyle and education.
Please remember that there is value a variety of model kits when you see the work of others and when, get to see a lot of people the work that you have made.
I can say hobby of model kit is a hobby that is completely contained by himself basically.
However, the hobby of model kit I can become a tool to promote communication in order to connect with many people.
There is no need to seek to make a great work. Please seek to make a model kit while having fun.

R- Per concludere:

Thank You and best regards

Katsumi Kawaguchi
